  • Your data stays within Legacy Keeper: We do not use, share, or transfer your personal information outside of the Legacy Keeper platform unless you explicitly authorize it through our collaboration features
  • No company access to your data: Legacy Keeper employees, including our support team, are not enabled to access your estate planning data
  • You control who sees your information: Only you and the people you explicitly authorize can access your data.
  • Professional User Access Professional users will only get access to your account if they create your account for you or you explicitly accept an invitation from them to collaborate on your account. You can revoke their access at any time.
  • AI processes but doesn't retain your data: Our AI technology processes your information to help you but does not store or use it for training
  • We never sell your data: Your information will never be sold to third parties

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account Information

When you create a Legacy Keeper account, we collect:

  • Name (first and last)
  • Email address
  • Phone number (optional)
  • Password (encrypted and never stored in plain text)
  • For Professional Users: professional credentials and licensing information

2.2 Estate Planning Information

As you use Legacy Keeper, you may provide:

  • Personal and family information
  • Asset and financial information
  • Beneficiary details
  • Healthcare directives and preferences
  • Documents and files you upload
  • Any other information you choose to include in your estate plan

2.3 Payment Information

If you subscribe to a paid plan, we collect payment information through our secure third-party payment processor. We do not store complete credit card numbers on our servers. Our payment processor handles all payment card information in compliance with PCI-DSS standards.

2.4 Usage Information

We automatically collect certain technical information when you use the Service:

  • Device information (type, operating system, browser)
  • IP address (for security and geographic location purposes)

Even our technical and support staff cannot view your personal documents, financial information, or other estate planning details.

4.3 Limited Administrative Access

In extremely rare circumstances, you may grant temporary access to Legacy Keeper administrators to help resolve technical issues with your account. This access:

  • Requires your explicit, written permission
  • Is granted only for specific, limited purposes
  • Is logged and audited
  • Is revoked immediately after the issue is resolved
  • Will never occur without your knowledge and consent

4.4 Your Security Responsibilities

You play an important role in keeping your information secure:

  • Choose a strong, unique password
  • Never share your password with anyone
  • Enable multi-factor authentication
  • Log out when using shared devices
  • Keep your contact information current
  • Report any suspicious activity immediately

5. Information Sharing and Disclosure

5.1 We Do Not Share Your Personal Information

Your personal information and estate planning data are not shared with, sold to, or disclosed to third parties. Your data stays within Legacy Keeper and is accessible only to you and those you explicitly authorize through our collaboration features.

5.2 Sharing You Control

You control who has access to your information through Legacy Keeper's collaboration features:

  • Professional Advisors: You can accept invitations from professional advisors, granting them the ability to view, input, and edit your data
  • Family and Friends: You can invite family members or friends to view specific information you choose to share
  • Revocable Access: You can revoke access for any authorized user at any time

All sharing is done within the Legacy Keeper platform and does not involve external data transfers.

5.3 Service Providers

We work with carefully selected service providers who help us operate the Service:

  • Cloud Infrastructure Provider: Hosts our servers and databases with enterprise-grade security
  • Payment Processor: Securely processes subscription payments
  • AI Technology Provider: Powers our AI features without retaining your data

These service providers:

  • Are contractually bound to protect your information
  • Can only use your data to provide services to Legacy Keeper
  • Cannot use your data for their own purposes
  • Must comply with strict security and privacy standards

5.4 Legal Requirements

6. Data Retention and Deletion

6.1 How Long We Keep Your Information

We retain your information for different periods depending on the type:

  • Account Data: As long as your account is active
  • Estate Planning Data: As long as your account is active or until you delete it
  • Payment Records: For 7 years as required by tax and accounting regulations
  • Technical Logs: For 90 days for security and troubleshooting purposes

6.2 Immediate Data Deletion

You can delete all of your account data at any time directly from your account settings page. After you confirm deletion, all of your data is permanently and immediately removed from Legacy Keeper's systems. Once deleted, your data is gone forever and cannot be recovered. We do not retain any backups or copies of deleted data.

6.3 Important Warnings

Before deleting your data, please understand:

  • Deletion is permanent and irreversible
  • You should export any information you want to keep
  • Deleted data cannot be recovered by Legacy Keeper or anyone else
  • You are responsible for maintaining your own backups

6.4 Legal Retention Requirements

In rare circumstances, we may be legally required to retain certain information even after you delete your account, such as to comply with legal holds, court orders, or regulatory requirements. If this applies to your data, we will notify you and retain only the minimum information necessary to comply with our legal obligations.

  • Access: You can access all of your information at any time through your account
  • Export: You can request the export of your data through our support team.

7.3 Deletion

You can delete your data at any time, as described in Section 6.2 above.

7.4 Restrict Processing

While your account is active, we need to process your information to provide the Service. If you wish to restrict processing, you can delete your account or delete specific information.

7.5 Object to Processing

If you object to how we process your information, you can contact us at general@legacykeeper.app to discuss your concerns. In most cases, ceasing to use the Service is the appropriate remedy if you object to our data processing practices.

7.6 Withdraw Consent

Where we rely on your consent to process information, you can withdraw that consent at any time by closing your account or deleting specific data.

If you believe we have not complied with applicable privacy laws, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

  • Right to request deletion of your personal information

8.4 European (Global) Privacy Rights (GDPR)

Legacy Keeper does not operate outside of the United States and Canada. Our models do not evaluate laws outside of our jurisdiction. We do not meet any standards for GDPR compliance and do not offer any GDPR rights to our users. If you are located in the European Union, we recommend that you do not use our Service.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. When we make material changes, we will:

  • Post the updated Privacy Policy on our website
  • Update the "Effective Date" at the top of the policy
